Faculty Profile for Professor Brice

A signature program of Colgate University since 1980, Living Writers is a master class in how works of literature come to be. In this slightly abbreviated version of Engl. 360, students read stories, essays, poems, novels, and a play by some of the world’s most acclaimed writers, among them Imbolo Mbue, author of How Beautiful We Were. Students read and discuss each work with the professor before meeting each author in person. A question that runs through several of the works studied this fall is: In the face of an apocalypse, where do humans find hope? Attendance at weekly public readings is required. Students who successfully complete this seminar will earn credit for ENGL 360 and satisfy one half of the human thought and expression areas of inquiry requirement.

Jennifer Brice is the author of The Last Settlers and Unlearning to Fly as well as the forthcoming Another North. In addition to Living Writers, she teaches courses in creative nonfiction and directs the Colgate Writers Conference.
