Students are introduced to the fundamentals of scientific research methodologies with a focus on how research practices work to better understand or further marginalize the lived experiences of LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) populations. As the study of LGBTQ populations expands, researchers need to reflect on queer epistemologies that allow us to interrogate the social world in an inclusive and affirming manner. Students are encouraged to think critically about ethical and theoretical debates surrounding the study of gender and sexual minority populations. Students also learn how data are collected, analyzed, and presented and practice the necessary skills needed to critically assess information.
