Faculty Profile for Professor Stephenson

Collage is a form of expression or a genre of art that embraces every conceivable material and creative technique. Using two and three-dimensional materials, coursework defines the essential elements of design organization, including color, scale, texture, and form. Students explore the traditional cutting and pasting process of collage but go further and allow 3D objects and digital and video manipulation. Students concentrate on making, but a primary objective is to develop the ability to create a body of work based on a singular concept. Class lectures provide insight into the history of collage and explore artists and contemporary art theory. Critiques are also a vital learning experience, allowing students to express and accept constructive feedback. Students who successfully complete this seminar earn credit for a 100-level ARTS course and satisfy the human thought and expression area of inquiry requirement.

Lynette Stephenson is a professor of studio art, primarily teaching drawing and painting at Colgate for the last twenty-five years.
