Faculty Profile for Professor Douglas

The period between the mediaeval age and the Industrial Revolution tends to be skipped over as the boring part of European history, full of excessively complicated wars and strange religious controversies. In reality, it's when most of the interesting stuff happened -- the development of modern politics and economic systems; surprisingly advanced technology; the growth of cities; plagues and epidemics that were even more amusing than coronavirus; and the rise of a global consciousness. Students who successfully complete this seminar earn credit for HIST 101 and satisfy the social relations, institutions, and agents areas of inquiry requirement.

R.M. Douglas is a historian of Europe with a keen interest in how things go wrong on a very large scale.
